What is an HRM-Scan?
HRM stands for Human Resource Management. An HRM scan is nothing more than a short investigation within the organization. By carrying out an internal evaluation, the most important opportunities, bottlenecks but also improvement possibilities for the organization become visible. With an HRM scan an organization gets direct insight into the internal HR policy. This way employers can use the results of the scan to their strategic goals to achieve and where possible improve matters.
How does an HRM-Scan work?
An HRM-scan is a methodology that examines multiple processes within the organization. A scan looks at various topics, for example: personnel budgeting, absence policy, HR organization, up to the functioning and to assess or developing and training personnel. An employer gains insight into the business process with a scan, after which the process can easily be adjusted.
There are several methods and tools for carrying out a scan. The following three considerations are generally applied:
Interviews with those involved
Interviews with management and involved employees in the business process. Often the interview is conducted using a questionnaire, so that you get a clear picture of what is happening within the process.
Visualization of business processes
It is important to map the main processes. That way you can immediately see where the improvement potential lies within the organization. You can create an overview using, for example, a Value Stream Map or a digital tool.
Report on opportunities and possibilities
Prepare a report to improve the various focus areas in the process. Then you can inform all those involved within the organization with a presentation of the report and an accompanying action plan.
The benefits of an HRM-Scan
An HRM scan is a strategic tool for organizations to optimize HR processes. When you as an organization choose to have an HRM scan carried out, it yields the following benefits:
Insight
A scan provides insight into the various processes within the organization. It immediately makes clear what is going on within the organization, which ideas exist or what concerns there are with an eye to the future.
Specialization
You will gain more insight into the HR themes that require attention or are working well within the organization. With an HRM scan you can dive deeper into topics that are important to you as an employer, such as employee experience or leadership.
HR policy
To be able to grow into a future-proof organization, professionalization and further development are important. With a scan you can determine whether further elaboration of HR policy is necessary or not. You can also see whether administrative processes are safeguarded. Based on the HRM-scan you can make the right decisions that fit the objectives of your organization.
