Definition of campus recruitment

Campus recruitment is a convenient way for employers to introduce students to the field. It is an opportunity to connect students to the organization and at the same time give them a taste of working life.

Campus recruitment is the recruiting of students for internships, traineeships and entry-level positions. Before the pandemic the recruitment process largely took place on site, think of a company day or in-house days. This of course costs a lot of time and money. Digital events now provide employers with a convenient way to introduce students to the organization online.

The benefits of campus recruitment

Campus recruitment offers advantages for both employers and (future) employees. First of all, it is often cheaper for organizations to hire a student for an internship or an entry-level position. This way, as an employer you can immediately teach him or her the tricks of the trade and offer practical guidance. In addition, a student provides a fresh perspective on the tasks and the way of working within the organization.

When you invest in students, you can reap benefits in the long term. After graduating and during the search for a job, they already know you as an organization and employer. The downside is that, as an employer, it does cost you time and money to train the student. It is also important that you make the company culture and the tasks known to the student to prevent absenteeism and turnover.

Campus recruitment in practice

How can you reach young talent for your organization now? This is how campus recruitment works in practice:

1. Social Media

The internet and social media are deeply intertwined with students' lives. Ensure a good online presentation of the organization on social media. By sharing attractive and informative content on social media – think of your website from LinkedIn to Instagram – you attract the attention of students so that they want to contact your organization.

2. Online events

Although the end of the pandemic is approaching, many students at universities and colleges still attend their lectures online. Due to the ongoing corona measures, it is not easy now to organize company days and in-house days. Choose to organize these events online.

The advantage is that more students can now join to get to know the organization, for example via a virtual tour of the office. An online event also offers students the chance to make contact with employees, where they can ask pressing questions that there is usually little room for.

3. Internships and traineeships

Create internship positions and traineeships for students. This way the student gets to know the various tasks and processes within the organization in a practical way. In addition, an intern can increase your company's brand awareness by sharing his or her experiences with classmates.
