The added value of leadership development for managers

 Having regard to the current shortage of the labor market, it is important for many organizations to retain employees. Managers play an important role within the organization. To prepare the organization for the future, successful managers also need to expand and improve their skills. How can you, as an employer, empower managers so that they can develop into an inspiring leader?

Research van McKinsey & Company shows that more than 90 percent of employers see value in investing in leadership development. The study also shows that for many – more than 80 percent – strong leadership can make the difference within an organization. Yet the study indicates that more than half of the companies are not certain that leadership development will deliver positive results.

What is leadership development?

Leadership development is nothing other than the growth that the manager makes within the company. It is important that the manager refreshes his or her knowledge and skills, so that they can better support all team members in their development. With leadership development, managers – and by extension the team members- can provide more direction about their professional careers.

What is good leadership?

In addition to thorough knowledge, a good manager must take multiple factors into account in every decision:

●     Why do we want to achieve these goals?

●     How do I achieve these goals?

●     Which team members am I working with toward this goal?
