One in ten employees in the Netherlands is sixty years or older and will retire within the next seven years. However, it appears from research that four out of ten AOW recipients still want to do paid work. According to the Ministry of SZW, this means that employers have a group of approximately 200,000 experienced employees available who want to work part-time.

Met the campaign ‘Some employees can't be stopped’ the ministry urges employers to talk to people who are nearing retirement age. Employers can therefore, in view of rising aging, deploy older employees. We list the 4 benefits of hiring an AOW recipient for you.

1.    Knowledge and expertise

One of the most obvious advantages of employing an AOW recipient is the enormous amount of experience and knowledge they bring with them. These experienced employees have often worked for decades in various roles and sectors, resulting in a wide range of skills. Such valuable knowledge

they can share with their colleagues, which provides added value when solving complex problems. In addition, they can guide younger employees in making well-considered decisions.

2. Consistency

An AOW recipient has a proven track record. He or she has shown that they can consistently perform and take responsibility throughout their career. This translates into loyalty and a stable work attitude. As an employer you can trust that AOW recipients carry out their tasks in a timely and careful manner. This has a positive effect on team productivity and the overall working atmosphere.

3.    Adaptability

You don't have to explain the importance of continuous growth and development to an AOW recipient. They are often willing to invest in further training and education. This enables them to adapt easily to new technologies and ways of working, which is important in a rapidly changing business environment.

4.    Financial benefits

Hiring an AOW recipient also brings significant financial benefits for you as an employer. For example, as an employer you are not bound by the statutory minimum wage and holiday allowance. Furthermore, with someone who has reached the retirement age you but thirteen weeks of wages to be paid during illness instead of two years. Moreover, there are special rates for payroll tax credit applicable to AOW’ers, which results in further savings for your organization.

5.    Network and contacts

During their career an AOW recipient has built up an extensive professional network. These contacts can be valuable to your organization. They can help attract new customers, establish partnerships and identify growth opportunities. An AOW recipient can act as a bridge-builder between your organization and these valuable contacts, thereby expanding business opportunities.

In short, deploying AOW recipients in the workplace brings many benefits. It is a welcome addition in times of labor market shortages.
