What is internal mobility?
Internal mobility is about the movement of people within a company. This has the major advantage that you keep talent and knowledge within the organization. Internal mobility also plays a big role in increased job satisfaction and engagement and in reduced sickness absence and turnover among employees. They feel more valued when there are opportunities within the organization to fulfill their ambitions and develop themselves. They will therefore be less likely to look for a job elsewhere.
Promote internal mobility
If you want to keep your organization healthy, then drawing up an internal mobility plan is important. Actions with which you internal mobility promotes, are among others:
1. Focus on opportunities
Internal mobility does not yet have an equally good reputation everywhere. Team leaders would rather not see their best employees leave, and it is sometimes still a bit viewed as filling one ‘gap’ with another. So make sure to show the opportunities internal mobility offers and communicate this to all departments and employees.
2. Ensure sufficient training and coaching
Offering education, training and coaching for employees creates a more flexible organization from within, making vacancies easier to fill.
3. Encourage internal applications
Create an internal job vacancy platform and give existing employees the opportunity to apply with priority.
4. Focus on individual development plans
Have regular conversations with employees about their personal development and draw up a tailored development plan together with them.
5. Report
Nothing is as important as sharing results! Make clear to everyone within the organization what an internal mobility plan delivers. This ensures top-of-mind awareness.
